General Store
The origin of the building is not precisely known. It was purchased by Rudolph Platts who owned the Platts Drug Store. This small white clapboard building was built sometime in the 1800's. We know that in 1880 Rudolph moved it further away from his drug store as he felt it presented a fire hazard. Rudolph took orders from the farmers for seed that they would need to plant in their fields come spring. He used the building to hold the farmers seed until they needed it for planting. Later it became the Platts Burgess & Co. Bank. At one time it housed a business that cleaned and blocked hats. It was a barber shop and a beauty shop. Inside this building yo will find the Argyle, Michigan post office. The Argyle Post Office was established on February 18, 1876 with Alexander McLachlin taking over as first Postmaster. |
