About Us

Sanilac County Historical Society

Our Purpose:

To promote interest in the history and cultural heritage of Sanilac County

To collect, preserve, and exhibit archival records and information, materials, objects and buildings relating to the history of Sanilac County and the State of Michigan.


The museum is open from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend each Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11am until 5:00pm Last tour no later than 4:00pm.

All other days, year around, tours are available by appointment. (Phone 810-622-9946)

(Group tours can be customized for you, including suggestions for other area attractions to visit and good local places to eat.)

The Museum Office is open, year around, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

The Archives & Genealogy Rooms are open, year around, on Wednesdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, and other times by appointment. (Phone 810-622-9943)

The Board of Directors meets monthly on the second Monday of the month, at 7:00 PM. Meetings are held in the kitchen of the museum.


We have an historical library, an archival records room, and genealogical records for the area. We are able to do research, on request, for a fee. Contact the museum with your inquiry for more information.


Some of the facilities here are available to rent for your private events. Weddings are frequently held in The Museum Church. The Museum Church is also used to hold meetings and serve meals. The first floor of the Mansion is also available. You can have a catered party there, or a small reception. Other buildings are also available. Rentals require a security and cleaning deposit.
